First time on air: 1981 or 1982
Favorite story/report: Many, but among the highlights was a series I did on female problem gamblers, for which I accepted a national award at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. That was pretty exciting!
Dream job: I have it, which is incredible to me. I pinch myself everyday that I read the morning news on WCCO Radio!
Favorite program: The Morning News with Dave Lee, of course! It has everything you need to start your day. I especially like the 20 at 7.
First story: I'm sure it was either a city council meeting or school board meeting in Chippewa Falls, WI. Not too exciting.
Hometown: Thorp, WI
Hidden talent: Flower gardening. I'm learning something new all the time and reaping the rewards of beautiful landscaping around our home that my husband and I did ourselves.
Memorable concert: Billy Joel and Elton John together at the Xcel Energy Center. Billy Joel has been my favorite singer/songwriter since I was a teenager and I sang along with every song!
Favorite car you've ever had: 1988 Honda Accord coupe. It's the only brand new car I ever bought and it was a stick shift that I taught myself to drive. I loved it, but had to sell it after my first baby was born.
Favorite sports team: All of the Minnesota Gophers teams. They're great role models for my kids.
Favorite travel destination: Duluth has very special memories for me ( I was engaged there for one!) and my husband and I like to take the kids there every year.
3 cities you've lived in: Rockford/Dekalb, IL; Duluth, MN; and Cincinnati, OH
3 jobs you've had: telemarketer, retail sign printer, and radio news reporter
3 tv shows you like to watch: Mad TV, SNL, and reruns of Malcom in the Middle and Everyone Loves Raymond
3 schools that you've attended: Thorp High School, UW-Eau Claire, and U of MN Twin Cities campus
What is your greatest pet peeve: People who think they are better than you
What decade do you think had the best fashion: Right now, because I am finally comfortable with how I look. I guess age has mellowed me.
Share something about a special trip you have taken: My husband and I took a trip to London and Wales before we had kids and it was the most memorable trip ever. The scenery in Wales was breathtaking and all the history that surrounded us took us back in time. I'll never forget watching people swim in the ocean off St. David, Wales when we were bundled up in sweaters and freezing.
Quote to live by: As Doris Day sang, 'whatever will be, will be.' Also, 'Don't sweat the small stuff.' It helps me let go and not to worry so much. That's not easy to do when you're a mom!
Worst advice you ever received: To not take a part-time radio job while I was in college
Teacher who had the greatest impact on you: Henry Lippold taught broadcast journalism at UW-Eau Claire for years and was a beacon of enthusiasm, hard work and commitment to journalistic integrity. The values he taught me remain with me to this day.
Your proudest moment: The birth of my two children
The funniest thing anyone has ever said to you: That my hair looked like a mushroom cloud. (Former WCCO Radio newsman Dick Chapman's assessment of my first official photo shoot at the station. Hey, it was humid that day!)
If your life were a movie, it would be called: The Luckiest Woman Alive!
