Governor Gives Final Approval to Compensation for 35W Bridge Victims

A bill directing compensation to victims of the I-35-W bridge collapse is now law. Surrounded by many of the bridge survivors, Governor Pawlenty signed the measure during a ceremony in his Reception Room.  The 38-million-dollar law limits indvidual awards to 400-thousand-dollars, but there's a supplemental fund that will help those with the most lost wages and highest un compensated medical bills.  Victims must agree NOT to sue the state, a Supreme Court-appointed panel of lawyers will determine the settlement amounts.
