Metro transit says in light of record fuel prices a potential fare increase is being considered. Spokeswoman Julie Johansson says on Monday the Metropolitan Council's Transportation Committee will be asked to approve public hearings on a potential fare increase. Johansson says increasing fares is a long process. J
ohansson says IF a fare increase is approved it most likely would not take effect until October. Johansson says high fuel prices have contributed to a 7.6-percent ridership increase in the first four months of 2008. But, she says the fuel prices have also taken a toll. She says they expect to pay 3.27 a gallon, on average, for fuel this year. She says they paid 2.27 a gallon back in 2006.
