A police officer shot and killed a man in St. Louis Park early today.

It happened shortly before 2:30am when an officer leaving the police department after his shift noticed a vehicle driving erratically on Minnetonka Boulevard near the police station.  After the officer stopped the vehicle, an altercation ensued and the police officer shot and killed a man.  The officer was not hurt. The man who was shot and killed has been identified as 29 year old Jason Anthony Martin of Blaine. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

A second person in the vehicle was taken into custody for questioning.
